“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The Leviathan Spirit
Leviathan is often given the physical attributes of a giant, serpent like sea creature. According to Strong’s Concordance, Leviathan is depicted as “a wreathed animal or serpent.” The most detailed description of Leviathan can be found in Job 41, in which God asks Job if he can handle a battle with this apparently unbeatable monster. Leviathan is described as exhaling smoke and having scales, breath like hot coals and sharp teeth that are “terrible round about.” Some modern-day Christians believe the spirit of Leviathan attacks believers by causing them to turn away from God.
The same chapter in Job associates Leviathan with pride, and some believe that pride and stubbornness are manifestations of a spiritual attack by Leviathan. Emotions such as grief, bitterness and unforgiveness are also associated with the Leviathan spirit. Other manifestations of the Leviathan spirit include the inability to concentrate on studying the Bible or other spiritual goals, and learning disabilities affecting children. The latter stems from the belief that the Leviathan spirit will afflict generations of the same family as a sort of family curse.
Leviathan is a demon principality not just a demon spirit.
Job 41:1 “Can you draw Leviathan out with a hook?”
Job 41:10 “No one is so fierce that they would dare stir him up.”
Job 41:26-32 “If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail; nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft. He counteth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee; sling stones are turned with him to rubble. Clubs are counted as stubble; he laugheth at the rushing of the javelin. His under parts are like sharp potsherds; he spreadeth as it were a threshing wain upon the mire. He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. He maketh a path to shine after him.
It is clear that natural weapons cannot destroy him. Isaiah 27:1 “In that day the Lord with his severe sword, great and strong, will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisted serpent, and he will slay the reptile that is in the sea.”
It will take the sword of the Lord to overcome this Leviathan; it is more than just a natural large sea mammal.
The Seven Heads Of Leviathan
Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things which Jehovah hateth; Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him; haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; a heart that deviseth wicked purposes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness that uttereth lies and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
The Leviathan Spirit has many characteristics, but it mainly manifests itself as pride. The very word “Leviathan” means “to twist.” In Scripture this spirit is regarded as a sea monster or seen as a serpent of some type.
Leviathan seeks to take you steps beyond natural apprehension into demonic rebellion. Leviathan is deceptive because it preys upon very real hurts and wrongs that have happened to you. Your pain is not imagined; you were actually wronged, but Leviathan is seeking to make you fix your gaze solely on your problem and the one who wronged you instead of looking at your own faults and repentance.
Leviathan shrouds itself in religious activity by allowing you to get overly involved in church/religious work, ministering to others, and even praying religious prayers for the people who hurt you, but this spirit will attempt to not allow you to take a look in the mirror and ask God for His word about YOU. Leviathan is a prideful spirit that won’t let you honestly confront YOUR own faults and dysfunctions. This spirit causes you to embrace your old constructs and call right what God is clearly calling wrong.
Leviathan is a twisting serpent and destroys its prey much like a boa constrictor in the natural. It wraps itself around you and covers you such that you cannot see, hear, or speak properly. Leviathan blinds you from seeing what God is doing in the reconstruction work of your life, he covers your ears so you can’t hear what God is trying to tell your heart, and he’ll try to silence your voice so even though you maintain the ability to talk, nothing that you’re saying makes any sense or is in alignment with what God is trying to do. Your words, if he is successful will actually become devoid of any power. Ultimately, Leviathan attempts to squeeze the life out of you until there’s nothing left.
Leviathan is a principality that is more ugly and evil than images portraying it depicts. It is a dark, low crawling, prideful, boasting, backbiting, lying, angry, quarrelsome, gossiping, word twisting, easily offended, opportunistic spirit that operates through people whose main mission is to ease it’s way into your life to use you to acquire what they themselves can’t acquire OR to take what you have. That is only one of it’s many missions. When this spirit has been exposed and you stop allowing it to manipulate you, it will turn on you by telling lies to others about you to discredit you or to cause others to separate themselves from you. The bite of leviathan is painful and its venom causes death- it kills relationships, self esteem, happiness, reputations, and will try to destroy your relationship with God.
Is the spirit of leviathan operating in you or someone you know? Examine yourself, admit YOUR OWN FAULTS and sincerely REPENT if you are responsible for causing someone to be unfairly ostracized from family members, gossip about people instead of praying for them, have hurt someone but are too proud to apologize to them or to admit fault or exhibit any of the other characteristics of Leviathan. The damage brought about by this demonic entity has caused people to commit suicide, family units to be utterly dysfunctional and many destroyed altogether.
