The Pagan Origins of Birthday Celebrations

Proverb 25:2- It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and the glory of a king to plumb a matter.

Many of us have been conditioned to jump onto bandwagons without asking any questions. Countries who are so desperate to become more like the Western World have ignorantly adopted the evil practice of birthday party celebrations based on traditions that are strange and that most Westerners have been brainwashed to adhere to. Christian families tend to “punish” others in their family who have chosen to obey God by being separated from the nations which includes not adhering to THEIR TRADITIONS which includes birthday celebrations. Why were our parents and their parents so stupefied as to introduce us to this birthday celebration tradition? Why did they (as God fearing Christians) ignore the commandment to BE SEPEARATE (Deuteronomy 18:9-12)? Its due to the mixing of Christian and pagan traditions which unfortunately Christianity is full of!

Have you ever questioned where the tradition of birthday celebrations and birthday cakes originated from? Well, the ancient Egyptians didn’t celebrate the birthdays of regular people, but instead celebrated birthdays when pharaohs were crowned, which marked their “birth” as gods. They also celebrated “birthdays” of goddesses. As early as 3,000 BCE, the royals of ancient Egypt and Babylon celebrated the pharaoh’s coronation day as the birthday of a god.

The Egyptian calendar consisted of 12 months that were each 30 days long. The extra five days left over at the end of the year were festival days- each day dedicated to celebrating the birthday of a different deity with offerings and sacrifices made in their honor. This is the first recorded instance in history where birthdays were celebrated every year.

  • Day 1 was the birthday of Osiris
  • Day2 was the birthday of Horus
  • Day3 was the Birthday of Seth
  • Day4 was the Birthday of Isis
  • Day5 was the Birthday of Nephthys

The ANCIENT Greeks adopted the tradition of celebrating birthdays from the Egyptians, and celebrated the sixth day of each lunar year with baked moon shaped cakes to honor Artemis, the goddess of the moon and were used as offerings to the moon goddess and sacrifices were given as well. The cakes were made of dough, honey and sesame seeds and were taken to the temple where they were presented between two burning torches called “amphiphontes”, representing the East and the West which was yet another representation of Artemis as a moon goddess. The cakes were decorated with lit candles to represent the moons glow, or to make the cakes “shine like the moon”. The Greeks believed that the smoke from the candles carried their wishes to the gods in response to the evil spirits that showed up to communicate with the gods, which is where Westerners adopted “make a wish and blow out the candles” during their birthday celebrations. The ancient Greeks believed that each person had a spirit that attended his or her birth, and kept watch. That spirit had a mystic relation with the god on whose birthday the individual was born (cited from The Lore of Birthdays). Only important family heads (men only) celebrated personal birthdays. Greeks considered the day of one’s birth (and death) a “dirty day”.

In many Pagan belief systems, days of major change in the world or in a person’s life were thought to invite evil spirits into the world. When birthdays began to be celebrated for common people rather than just gods and religious figures, a widespread belief was that evil spirits would visit people on their birthdays, so a party must be held to scare them away. By making loud noises and making the birthday person feel happy was believed to ward off the evil spirits. These early modernized birthday parties were considered a form of protection against evil. According to The Satanic Bible The highest of all holidays in the Satanic religion is the date of one’s own birthday. This is in direct contradiction to the holy of holy days of other religions which deify a particular God who has been created in an anthropomorphic form of their own image, thereby showing that the ego is not really buried. The Satanist feels: ‘Why not really be honest and if you are going to create a god in your image, why not create that god as yourself’. Every man is a god if he chooses to recognize himself as one. So, the Satanist his own birthday as the most important holiday of the year.” (cited from the Satanic Bible)

Early Christians considered these celebrations inappropriate due to its pagan origin and did not observe birthdays (not even Jesus) until about the fourth century when they caved and began to celebrate the birth of Jesus. In medieval Germany a sweet bread was baked in the shape of “baby Jesus” to commemorate his birth. Sometime between the 15th and 18th centuries, Germans introduced the idea of celebrating a child’s birthday with a “Kinderfeste party” which involved a cake with candles corresponding to the age of the child with an additional candle representing “light of life” in hopes that the child would live and additional year. The candles being blown represented smoke going to heaven, and the child was surrounded by family and friends which was supposed to provide protection from evil spirits who might attempt to steal the child’s soul.

The first century Jews knew God’s יהוה attitude toward birthday celebrations, “Nay, indeed, the law does not permit us to make festivals at the births of our children” (cited from Flavius Josephus, Against Apion, Book II, section 26)

Birthday parties even amongst the wealthy in America wasn’t common until the 1800’s. Peer-culture birthday parties where children were included in the celebration did not become common even among wealthy Americans until the late 30’s, with the introduction of birthday cakes and candles.

Today the birthday tradition of eating cake, blowing out candles while making a wish and having a party has been repackaged to look like an innocent celebration of the life of another, but the origin of it makes what seems to be an innocent celebration, evil and is only a continued connection to Artemis the Greek moon goddess, and for the practitioner to be “a god/goddess” for a day. This tradition like so many concepts was passed down to the Romans and the Western world through the Greeks from the Egyptians, and is rooted in paganism. Sadly, many who learn the truth will make excuses to continue the worship of the Greek moon goddess, Artemis.

Jeremiah 10:2 Thus said GOD  יהוה: Do not learn to go the way of the nations, and do not be dismayed by portents in the sky; Let the nations be dismayed by them!

Proverb 4:14 Do not enter on the path of the wicked; Do not walk on the way of evil men.

Deuteronomy 18:9 When you enter the land that your God יהוה is giving you, you shall not learn to imitate the abhorrent practices of those nations.

Deuteronomy 6:1418 (Torah)Do not follow other gods, any gods of the peoples about you- for your God יהוה in your midst is an impassioned God יהוה -lest the anger of your God יהוה blaze forth against you, wiping you off the face of the earth. Do not try your God יהוה as you did at Massah. Be sure to keep the commandments, decrees, and laws that your God יהוה has enjoined upon you. Do what is right and good in the sight of יהוה that it may go well with you and that you may be able to possess the good land that your God יהוה promised on oath to your forefathers.

In the above verses from the Hebrew Bible, God warns the Israelites not to worship other gods or risk God’s anger and destruction and encourages them to serve and worship God exclusively and to keep His commandments.

There are more verses but you get the point, right?

God יהוה commanded these to The House of Israel! The House of Israel consists of those who are descendants of Jacob and those who worship the God יהוה of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, which includes the Noachides. Why is it that all of the so-called “seers” and “prophets” in Christianity don’t see what is right in front of them? All of these celebrations from birthday celebrations to Easter are all repackaged, and recycled homage to sungods, fertility gods, moongods, skygods, gods of the dead, motherhood goddess, and gods of wisdom.

  1. I must admit that I have NEVER heard of any of this before, and as intelligent as I always ascribed myself to be, I never considered questioning something that always seemed until now to be an innocent gesture of love and recognition of another person. I have a new perspective now- the part about “being a god/goddess for a day” really impacted me as it is a direct relation to the practices of the early Egyptians, Greek/Romans and I’m sure other during that era in that region. We certainly are a people who are in DENIAL because as written above, if I were to discontinue contributing to the practice of people celebrations I would no doubt be cast out of my family as “the non-compliant one”. Nonetheless, I have decided after reading this and then researching the Satan’s Bible quotation to no longer be a member of the dumb masses who are unknowingly continuing Pagan evil practices. As a matter of fact, I have decided to disengage in all of them Christmas, Easter, etc. after learning of all of their pagan roots. It is my prayer that your post meets many and helps those who honestly want to obey God and would do so if they knew what to do. Christianity has a way of making you dumb, and I don’t want to be that anymore.

  2. Very thought provoking! The West made the whole thing famous to capitalize off of it, playing on the ignorance of the masses, redesigning something evil to look innocent by putting frosting on it! Isn’t that what fake people do, especially Christians? Put on a suit or a tight dress and go to church and pretend to be something that we aren’t? In my opinion, anything connected to this world is inheritably evil which is why God said for those who follow Him to be separated. Most people think that they are just bible stories with no fear of God because you can’t “see” Him, but those who follow Him can see Him and hear Him and they obey Him.

  3. Gabam! You nailed it! I will not, and I do mean WILL NOT be a member of, follow or otherwise support any religious group, organization or even a charity that mimic’s any of the evil rituals done during the time of Babylon during, before and after! We have been recycled and repackaged and are now modern day Egyptians and Babylonians doing the same evil practices that they did and birthday celebrations are amongst the many other things. I don’t care who rejects me- I will no longer be a part of it! This post only confirms what I’ve been feeling for many years about wordily festivals and celebrations.

  4. I agree with Edward, we are no more than recycled and repacked souls of the ancient sodomites, ancient Egyptians, Babylonians and every one else in history. Their evil, wicked practices have never died out, they’ve just been repackaged. All of these so-called spiritual people in church who claim to “see” aint seeing nothing!!!!

  5. Yes! I agree with it all because this is something that I’ve been fighting with for years now feeling that it’s not right even to the point of realizing, why am I allowing others to exalt me for a day when I haven’t even repented all year? When I just lied to my mum and was too proud to even apologize to her for it. I’m always gossiping, especially about my own family and to be honest I sow discord between my mum and grandmum by allowing my grandmum to talk rubbish about my mum without me even defending my mum or just putting a stop to it. I know that I am not a good person, I know that I can be better but my pride is my biggest enemy. This is my testimony of guilt and I’m sure that most people who allow themselves to be a god for a day (birthday) can say pretty much the same about themselves. May God help those who want to be helped.
